Prof P. Papanagiotou

 

Specialist in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology & Neuroradiology

 

Panagiotis Papanagiotou is since 2012 Director of the Dept. for Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at Hospitals Bremen-Mitte/Bremen-Ost in Germany. Previously he was co-director of the Department for Neuroradiology at Saarland University Hospital.  He is a visiting Professor at Anglia Ruskin University in the UK. In 2014, he became an Associate Professor at Saarland University in Germany.

Panagiotis Papanagiotou is a pioneer in new techniques of endovascular stroke treatment with publications in Circulation, JACC, Stroke and Lancet Neurology. He has performed a series of studies in this area and has conducted many clinical trials. He significantly contributed to the introduction of the first Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU) worldwide. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 published papers and book-chapters. Under his lead the dept.  for Neuroradiology in Bremen performs more than 600 neurovascular procedures annually, with ca. 200 thrombectomies. He performed >1000 endovascular acute stroke procedures.
